Why we are here, how it started
Back in 1992, a tiny shave ice shop opened its doors in Maui. Fast forward to today, and that little shop has blossomed into Tobi’s Poke and Shave Ice, a bustling favorite in Paia-town.
Welcome to Tobi’s! We’re known for our classic shave ice, fresh ahi poke, and ‘local kine grinds’, like shoyu chicken and chili and rice.
But there’s more to us than just food. We’re a team of passionate folks who love Maui, the ocean, kitesurfing, ocean sports, and championing food sustainability. We’re all about supporting local initiatives and even grow some of our own produce in our garden.
At Tobi’s, every dish has a story – it’s about tradition, community, and our love for the land and sea. Join us for a taste of Hawaii and a big dose of aloha. We can’t wait to share our world with you.

Meet Erica Gale, owner and poke enthusiast. Erica fondly remembers going to Tobi’s after surf and kite sessions at Ho’okipa. “When Aunty Tobi was ready to step out of the Maui restaurant business, the opportunity to continue a legacy of love for fresh local food on the world-class ocean sport community on the north shore of Maui was truly a dream come true.” -Erica
The Poke plate is different than any other “poke bowl” you will find – the fresh fish, mixed to order, comes on a bed of local mixed greens with a perfectly creamy, sweet, and salty miso mayo dressing and the most perfectly crunchy wonton strips. On the side, two scoops of rice topped with shoyu and furikake – a local favorite mix of seasoned nori. And whether you are a kid or adult, you can’t beat the refreshing coolness of light, fluffy shave ice that melts in your mouth on a hot Maui day!
